CHARLES "RAY" ESHELMAN

Charles “Ray” Eshelman Ages 81, of Brandywine Hundred and Millsboro, DE passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 11, 2010. Born in Oxford, PA on September 8, 1928, the first son of the late Charles H. and Alice Eshelman. Ray started his career as a bus driver for the now defunct Shortline Bus Service before joining the Teamsters Local #326. He retired in 1997 after 25 years as a truck driver for Georgia Pacific. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a was a member of American Legion Post 28 - Oak Orchard DE. Never one to sit idle, Ray returned to work as a driver for Lexus of Wilmington for several years. His biggest joy in life next to his wife and daughter was his love of gardening. Ray will be sorely missed by his neighbors and friends who counted his tomatoes and green beans as some of the best around. He was often seen mowing the grass or in his extensive vegetable garden on the Talley property at Foulk and Shipley Roads. He loved "volunteering" his time at Talley’s Garage every morning 5 days a week helping his best friend Jim and family get ready to open for business. He was a great man with a heart that was immeasurable. No friend or neighbor was ever in need as long as Ray was around. He was a lover of all animals. The family would like to thank Dr. Houman Danesh and the ICU nursing staff at St. Francis Hospital for their care of Ray during his illness. The family would also like to thank those friends who were by their sides during this difficult time. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Betty Sumner Eshelman, his loving daughter Dawn McClintock (Edward) of Millsboro, DE. Brothers, Barry, Jerry (Katie), Terry (Nancy), Rick (Lynda); Sisters, Joyce Tibbs and Patty Wiley; sisters and brother-in-laws, Susan Lawson(Robert) and Julia Samuels (Gary); nieces, nephews, his cat Camelot and his granddogs, Benny and Bubba. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00 am at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville, where friends may call after 10.
