CARL KIRBY

Carl James Kirby “The Living Legend” Carl, known to by his friends as “The Living Legend” died at home on Monday, January 11, 2010 at home. He was 69. Carl was the son of the late Carl and Mildred Kirby. He attended A.I. duPont High School, and was a gunsmith by trade. As a gunsmith, he built Civil War long rifles. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, photography, and boating and he was a lifetime member of the Safari International Club as well as the Hockessin Fire Company. Carl held the world record in 1990 for the largest bison in the state of Texas. Carl also had a pilot’s license, and enjoyed flying. Carl was predeceased by his sister Barbara Megginson and brother Lawrence J. Kirby. He survived by his son, Joseph Rivello; brother, Barry Thomas Kirby and his wife Phyllis from Chuiota, FL ; sister Linda Condella; numerous nieces and nephews; and his friends and caretakers, Clifford Breeding, Raymond Green, Shaquetta Bunch, and the Carpenter family. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 10:30 am at the McCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt. 202, S. of Silverside Rd.), Wilmington, DE 19803. The viewing will begin at 9 am. Interment to follow the service at Silverbrook. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Carl’s name to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810.
