WILLIAM F. DAVIS, JR.

William Faucett Davis, Jr. Age 76, of Claymont, DE, passed away at home on December 26, 2009, after a brief illness. Bill, a lifelong resident of Delaware, grew up on Naamans Road and graduated from the Carson Long Institute (Military Academy) in New Bloomfield, PA in 1952. He immediately went to work for A. I. DuPont at the Newport Pigments Plant, retiring in 1991 from Ciba-Geigy after they acquired the plant. Bill was a home repair expert and generously gave his time maintaining the homes of neighbors, friends and family. Just this summer he oversaw the renovation of the home of his oldest granddaughter and her new husband. He will be missed as the loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend he was to us all. Bill is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Beverly B. (Bird); son, Dale W. and wife Linda A. of Bear; 2 daughters, Dawn M. and husband Michael Gower and Danée and her former husband, David H. Kennedy all of Claymont; granddaughters, Lauren N. and husband, James R. Donovan and Stacey C. Davis, both of Bear, Alyssa L. Gower and Megan M. Wilson of Claymont; grandsons, Daniel J. Gower, Matthew J. Wilson and Joshua B. Gower all of Claymont; sister, Joan Lloyd and her husband Paul of Middletown; brother, Robert and his wife Mollie of Lewis; brother-in-law, Victor H. Bird of TX, Leland T. Bird and his wife Anita of Claymont; sister-in-law, Natalie J. McMahon of VA, 6 cousins, 21 nieces and nephews, 23 grandnieces and nephews and 2 great grandnephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Loretta (Kulp) and William F. Davis, Sr. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, at 11am at the Atonement United Methodist Church, 3519 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, followed by a luncheon, with the burial to follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle. A visitation will be on Tuesday, December 29 for 7-9pm at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington,(just south of Silverside Rd) and from 10-11am at the church prior to service time.
