W. Edward Merrill
Age 93, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on December 23, 2009. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, and an insurance agent/manager, retiring from National Grange and Nationwide Insurance Companies. Eddie was also a member of the “Flying 10 Club”. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, organ playing, and flying. His wife of 63 years, Eleanor R. Merrill died in 2001. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul Merrill.
Eddie is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Bonnie) Haines and husband, Alan, and Rebecca (Becky) Merrill; 5 grandchildren, Dina Appleby, Julie White, Cathy Ciolek, Eddie Conner, and David Haines; 10 great grandchildren, Shannon, Josh, Holly, Alex, Danielle, Eddie, Hannah, Megan, Matthew, and Eric; and brother-in-law, Dan Redden.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Heartland Hospice and Griswold Special Care.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Highway, New Castle where friends may call after 10.
