GARLAND C. CLARK

Garland C. Clark * Age 87, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully December 23, 2009. Garland attended Henry C. Conrad High School where he was an All State football player. He enlisted in the Army during WWII, training war dogs to alert enemy attack. As a proud member of Merrill's Marauders, Garland served primarily in Burma and India, however,he had circled the globe by the time the war ended. Garland worked as a locomotive engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad and after 41 years retired from Conrail. He was an avid golfer, winning the New Castle Senior Tournament several times. He was able to play many different golf courses while traveling with his wife and their friends. Garland was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn T. Clark, and his sister Betty Zakrjewski. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Susan C. August, with whom he lived; granddaughters, Stefanie and Christina; and great-grandson, Nicholas. Survivors also include brother Bill Clark of Rehoboth Beach, sisters Inez Swarter, Juanita Conly, and Shirley Roberts all of Wilmington. Also survived by one brother-in- law and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road where friends may call after 1. Interment will be private.
