THOMAS DEGNAN

Thomas Francis Degnan Thomas F. Degnan, 89, chemical engineer and retired principal consultant for the DuPont Company, died of complications from pneumonia on December 4, 2009. Thomas was a 1942 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a devout parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Born in Elisabeth, NJ, he moved to Wilmington and began working for DuPont immediately after graduating from Notre Dame. He retired from the Engineering Service Division of DuPont in 1983, after 41 years of service. Thomas was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Tau Beta Pi, and was a former officer of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE). His wife of 58 years, Margaret, died in 2008. Thomas was also predeceased by his son, Christopher. He is survived by a son, Tom and his wife, Anne Degnan of Moorestown, NJ, and a daughter-in-law, Toni Ann Degnan of Wilmington, DE, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Friends are invited to call at the McCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt. 202, S. of Silverside Rd.), Wilmington, DE 19803 on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 from 11 am -12:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1 pm at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803. Interment will follow the Mass at Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made in Thomas’ name to the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, 2200 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, DE 19806.
