JOSPEH FISHER
Joseph H. Fisher (“Joe”) 91, of Wilmington, DE passed away on October 12, 2009’
Joe was born near Berlin, MD on February 10, 1918. He was the fifth child of Robert J. Fisher and Nannie Gibbs Fisher.
Joe served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the infantry and with the press censorship unit in the Public Relations Division of Supreme Headquarters (SHAEF) in London, Paris and Frankfurt.
Joe graduated from Beacom College and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Delaware for fifteen years. From 1957 until 1986, he worked at the Wilmington office of Nemours Corporation.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Edith McGordy Fisher, who passed away on June 7, 2007. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Fisher and Linda Luchs of West Simsbury, CT; his daughter and son-in-law, Emily-May and James Richards of Atlanta, GA; his sisters, Nellie Withoff of Bemidji, MN and Ruth Hall of Bishopville, MD; and one grandson, Joe Lee Fisher, and his wife, Samantha, of Vienna, VA.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Joe and his family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Shipley Manor Health Center and his aides for the professionalism, care, love and compassion given to Joe in his last weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice at 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810; or the Memorial Fund of Aldersgate Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.
